Getting Started with SniperJournal: A Step-by-Step Guide

GuideTutorialGetting Started

You just got access to SniperJournal. You open the dashboard, see a bunch of charts and metrics, and think: "OK, where do I even start?" This guide is exactly that — the straight line from zero to getting real value out of your trading journal.

1. Import Your Trades

First things first: get your data in. SniperJournal gives you two ways:

Exchange auto-sync — Connect Binance, Bybit, OKX, Bitget, KuCoin, or MEXC with a read-only API key. Trades sync automatically. No manual work, no CSV files, no formatting headaches. Go to the import page, select your exchange, paste your API key and secret (read-only, never trading permissions), and you're done.

CSV import — For all other brokers or manual tracking. Download your trade history from your broker, drag the CSV into SniperJournal, map the columns once, and the system ingests everything. The importer remembers your column mapping for next time.

Connect exchanges or upload CSV files to get your trades into SniperJournal.

Once imported, your trades appear in the Journal automatically. If you imported from an exchange, remember to set up a recurring import — SniperJournal can sync new trades daily so you never have to think about it.

2. Understand Your Dashboard

The dashboard is your command center. Here's what you're looking at:

KPIs at the top — Total P&L, win rate, profit factor, number of trades, and your Sniper Score. These update automatically every time you open the dashboard. Green means you're doing something right. Red means there's something to investigate.

Equity curve — The line that actually matters. Is it going up? Good. Flat with sudden drops? You might be revenge trading. Smooth and steady? You're probably managing risk well.

Recent trades — A quick scroll of your last 20-30 trades with P&L, symbol, setup, and any mistakes you tagged. Click any trade to see full details.

KPIs, equity curve, recent trades, and your Sniper Score — all in one view.

Spend 2 minutes here at the start of each session. Don't overanalyze — just get a feel for where you stand.

3. Use the Journal

The Journal is your trade log. Every trade you imported or entered manually lives here. You can:

Filter and search — By date range, symbol, setup, portfolio, or mistake type. Want to see every BTC trade from the last 30 days where you tagged "FOMO"? Two clicks.

Edit trades — Click any trade to add notes, tag your setup, mark mistakes, attach screenshots, and adjust entry/exit data if needed. The more you tag, the more the AI can help you.

Tag mistakes — This is the most important habit you can build. On every losing trade, tag what went wrong: FOMO entry, revenge trading, moving your stop loss, overtrading, no clear setup. Takes 5 seconds per trade and unlocks everything else in the app.

Filter, search, and tag your trades. The detail modal lets you add notes, setups, and mistakes.

4. Check Your Analytics

This is where the journal stops being a log and starts being a coach. The Analytics page shows:

Profit Factor & Expectancy — Your Profit Factor should be above 1.5 to be consistently profitable. Expectancy tells you how much you make (or lose) per dollar risked. If these numbers aren't where you want them, the breakdown by setup and mistake will tell you exactly why.

R-Multiple distribution — Are your wins consistently bigger than your losses? Or do you have a lot of small wins wiped out by a few huge losses? This chart tells the story instantly.

Performance by time — Day of week, hour of day, session (Asian, London, New York). Maybe your win rate is 65% during London and 35% during Asian session. That's actionable information.

Setup comparison — Which setups actually make you money? Sort by P&L, win rate, or profit factor. You might discover that your "breakout" setup is carrying your entire P&L while "reversals" are bleeding money.

Deep metrics, R-Multiple distribution, time-based breakdowns, and setup comparison.

5. Let AI Insights Do the Detective Work

This is what separates SniperJournal from every other journal. AI Insights runs automatically and surfaces things you'd miss manually:

"Your win rate drops 40% on Fridays after 2pm."

"Revenge trades after a loss cost you $1,200 last month."

"You perform best with trending pairs and worst with ranging pairs."

"Your average loss is 2.3x your average win — consider tighter stops or smaller position sizes."

You don't need to ask. The insights are just there, updated every time you open the dashboard. Read them. They're usually right.

Automatic pattern detection that tells you what's working and what's costing you money.

6. Track Your Mistakes (Seriously)

Tagging mistakes takes 5 seconds per trade. The payoff is massive:

Financial impact — SniperJournal calculates the exact dollar cost of each mistake type. "Revenge trading cost you $2,400 this month." That number changes behavior faster than any advice ever will.

Ghost Mode — This strips out all your tagged mistakes and shows what your equity curve would look like if you traded your strategy cleanly. It answers the question: "Is my strategy broken, or am I breaking my strategy?"

See exactly which mistakes cost you the most, with dollar impact per mistake type.

Most traders discover that their strategy is actually profitable — they're just sabotaging it with 3-4 repeat mistakes. Ghost Mode makes that painfully clear.

The 5-Minute Daily Routine

Here's the workflow that takes 5 minutes and will improve your trading more than any indicator or course:

1. Import — Sync new trades (30 seconds; automatic if you set up exchange sync)

2. Tag — Mark mistakes on yesterday's losing trades (2 minutes)

3. Scan dashboard — Check KPIs and equity curve (1 minute)

4. Read AI Insights — Let the AI tell you what's changed (30 seconds)

5. Check Ghost Mode — See where your equity would be without mistakes (1 minute)

Do this every day. The patterns will reveal themselves. The AI will get smarter as you feed it more tagged data. And within 2-4 weeks, you'll know exactly what's holding you back — with specific numbers, not vague feelings.

That's it. Import your trades, tag your mistakes, let the AI do the analysis. The tool works if you use it consistently. Now go log today's session.
