How to Export Your TopstepX Trades and Import Them into a Journal

GuideImportFuturesBrokersSync

TopstepX lists the trades of your account in its Trades panel, and one click exports them to a CSV file — contract, direction, size, entry and exit with their times, P&L, fees and commissions. SniperJournal turns that file into a journal in about two minutes. No subscription, no trade limit.

This guide covers which TopstepX export to use, how to export it, how to import it, how the API sync (beta) works and what to do with a Live Funded account.

Which TopstepX export to use

SniperJournal recognizes these TopstepX files on its own. You pick the file; the format is detected for you.

  • Trades (trades_export.csv) — recommended. One row per closed trade, with the P&L TopstepX calculated and a Fees and a Commissions column, both deducted. Every time carries its UTC offset, so the trades land right without choosing a timezone.
  • Orders — the order list of the last 7 days. Only filled orders count, and the trades are rebuilt from them. The file has no fees.
  • Performance (Performance.csv) — also detected: a summary block and the trade table, with Net P&L and Commission & Fees. Its times come without a timezone, so check them in the preview.

A page saved from the TopstepX stats dashboard won’t work: it has no list of trades, and the importer tells you so.

Step 1 · Export the Trades panel from TopstepX

  1. Log in to TopstepX and select the account you want to journal.
  2. If the Trades panel isn’t in your layout, add it as a component and click Save Layout.
  3. Click Export at the bottom of the Trades panel, choose the dates and save the CSV file (trades_export.csv).
  4. If you trade several Combines or funded accounts, export one file per account.

TopstepX’s help center lists the Trades panel for Sim accounts only: the Trading Combine and Express Funded accounts. For a Live Funded account, see the last section. If the file comes out empty, try a wider date range.

Step 2 · Import it into SniperJournal

In SniperJournal, select the account (portfolio) the trades belong to, click the + button in the top bar and choose Import CSV File.

Pick the account in the sidebar first, then + → Import CSV File.

Drop the file in, or click Select CSV File. You can leave File’s timezone on Automatic: this file carries its own.

Drop trades_export.csv or click Select CSV File.

Step 3 · Check the preview

SniperJournal names the format it detected — here ProjectX / TopstepX (Trades) at 99% — and shows how many valid trades it found. Nothing is saved yet.

16 valid trades from 16 rows and the times of the first trades, already in your timezone.

Each row carries its own UTC offset, so there is no timezone to pick: the box at the top shows the times converted to the timezone of your Preferences. Look at the first two rows: TopstepX writes one row per entry, so adding to a position gives two rows with the same exit.

Step 4 · Import

Fees and commissions are already in the file, so there is nothing to type. Click Import.

16 trades imported, with the $23.18 of fees and commissions from the file subtracted in Net P&L.

What you get: every trade with TopstepX’s P&L, fees and commissions

Each row of the file becomes one trade: the contract, the direction, the number of contracts, the entry and exit with their times and the P&L TopstepX calculated. Fees and commissions are added together as the trade’s fees and subtracted in your net result, so you see gross and net side by side.

A long on 1 MNQ contract: $1.22 in fees and commissions, $98.00 gross and $96.78 net, 49 points captured.

Your dashboard, calendar and journal update on their own, with the net P&L of each day.

October with the daily net P&L of the imported trades: +$407.82 over 16 trades.

Sync by API (beta)

If you’d rather not export files, SniperJournal can sync your TopstepX accounts through the official ProjectX API. It’s in beta.

In SniperJournal, go to Settings → Connections, click Connect account and pick TopstepX. Enter your TopstepX username (not your email) and a ProjectX API key, choose the portfolio and click Connect TopstepX.

Username, API key and the portfolio to sync into, with notes on the ProjectX subscription and what the sync covers.
  • It needs ProjectX API access, a monthly subscription billed by ProjectX, not by SniperJournal. In TopstepX you link it in Settings → API → ProjectX Linking and then click Add API Key.
  • It brings the last 90 days of every account under your username, then keeps them synced on its own. For older trades, import the CSV.
  • ProjectX keys can’t be read-only, so SniperJournal limits itself: it only reads your trades and never places orders. The key is stored encrypted, and you can revoke it in your platform anytime.
  • If you imported a CSV first, the first sync is checked against it, and nothing is saved if they don’t match.
  • Live Funded accounts aren’t in the API.

Live Funded accounts, re-imports and several accounts

  • Live Funded accounts. TopstepX lists the Trades panel for Sim accounts only, and the API leaves Live Funded accounts out. Export the Orders panel instead: it covers the last 7 days, so export it every week. SniperJournal rebuilds the trades from the filled orders. That file has no fees, so add them afterwards: in Trades, click Select, pick the trades and use Set fees.
  • Re-imports are safe. Trades you already have are skipped, so a weekly export never duplicates anything.
  • One row per entry. Adding to a position gives one trade per entry, each with its own entry price and the shared exit, just as in the file.
  • Several accounts. Import each Combine or funded account into its own portfolio to compare them, or select several portfolios to see them together.

Export, import, check. A weekly export takes a minute, and your journal stays complete without typing a single trade.

FAQ

Which TopstepX export should I use?

Trades (trades_export.csv). Each row is a closed trade with its P&L, fees and commissions, and every time carries its UTC offset. Orders also works, but it covers the last 7 days and has no fees.

How do I export a Live Funded account?

TopstepX lists the Trades panel for Sim accounts only, and the ProjectX API leaves Live Funded accounts out. Export the Orders panel every week instead: SniperJournal rebuilds the trades from the filled orders. The file has no fees, so add them with Set fees.

Does SniperJournal sync with TopstepX automatically?

Yes, in beta, through the official ProjectX API: connect your TopstepX username and a ProjectX API key in Settings → Connections. It needs ProjectX API access, a subscription billed by ProjectX, and it brings the last 90 days and keeps them synced.

Why does one position show up as several trades?

Because TopstepX writes one row per entry. If you add to a position, each entry becomes its own trade, with its own entry price and the same exit, just as in the file.

Do I need to pick a timezone when importing?

No. Every time in the Trades file carries its UTC offset, so the trades land at the right moment, and SniperJournal shows them in the timezone of your Preferences.
